Hallo guys. I have to design a billboard that will been shown on a building.
The size of the Banner should be: 40 meter x 17 meter.
I know.. it is huge.
My Question is, what is the resolution I should use in Photoshop (is 300 dpi will work good? ) and If I like to use a photo,
what is the resolution it should have?
Thank you.

Do you really think people will look at it with a distance +/- 30 cm Do the math ... and think about it

Thanks for you answers. I hope that no one will look on it so close;)
But the question was if I have to use 300dpi whan opening a new doc on Photoshop or do I have to use a different resolution? If using photos (pixel) does 300dpi is the right resolution?

The resolution of the picture is almost of no importance.
Use as many pixels in width and height, you can get, and don’t interpolate it anywhere – it won't get better by interpolation.

If you need high resolution images for your project: http://large-format.photos
But it really depends if you need such large images. If you can also look at the board right in front of you high resolution does make sense. So none gets disappointed when you walk near it and it gets too blurry or you see too many pixel... but if the bill board is hanging somewhere like the 3rd or even 5th floor, you really don't need that kind high resolution.
A fair would be an example where you can see the image right in front of you. Or most normal ceilings are not further away than 2m from your eye sight. Large decoration at a store window at ground level would be another possibility and so on, I thing you get, when you need high resolution.
Another point is, there is no printer who can actually print large prints in a resolution of 300ppi (don't misunderstand ppi and dpi, I know Photoshop like to use dpi but it is actually ppi, at most you could use around 240 ppi in a print, you can still print 240ppi with 2440dpi...).
I work professionally with high resolution normally you use 100-160ppi at most in really large prints over 50m².
For a print in 40m x 17m in 100ppi you need a 10.5 Gigapixel image. We have these kind of resolution but not many image have this resolution or exceed it, you will most likely get problems to find good images in this resolution. Hopefully you don't need one huge image but a few images, than it should be no problem.
