Zitat:

The FIGURES FUTUR contest provides young illustrators with a platform for meeting artists from different corners of the world, and an opportunity to present to the general public as well as to the publishing sector their original works, and to propose new readings of prescribed works of classical literature.

All works under contest will be examined by a jury of professional people. It will give preference to artistic expressions that aim at bringing about new text/image relationships and creations that propose a personal, unique and innovative outlook.

The fifty or so illustrations selected, including the rewarded one, will be presented through a collective exhibition on the occasion of the 22nd Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse en Seine-Saint-Denis (Books and Press for Youth Fair in Seine-Saint-Denis), from 22 to 27 November 2006. A catalogue will be produced for this exhibition.

III) How to participate?

Candidates’ participation may be through illustrations or multimedia works.

In the case of illustrations, it is imperative for each candidate to propose to the contest a cover and a double page illustrating the chosen text.

The size of each of these two components: maximum 40 x 60 cm (15,75 x 23,63 inch).

All narrative forms are accepted (illustration, comic strip, photo…)

It is better to send in original illustrations except, of course, in cases where the work is in digital format. In these cases, we will accept print outs on paper.

In the case of multimedia works, each candidate should send only one CD or DVD containing the files in the usual formats.

IV) Jury and selection

The jury, which is made up notably of illustrators and teachers both French and international will select about fifty candidates and will award to one of them the Figures Futur 2006 Prize.
The jury will give preference to artistic expressions that aim at bringing about new text/image relationships and creations that propose a personal, unique and innovative outlook.

V) Promotion of selected illustrators

A – An exhibition of selected illustrations will be presented from 22 to 27 November 2006 at the 22nd Salon du livre et de la presse jeunesse in Seine-Saint-Denis (Books and Press for Youth Fair in Seine-Saint-Denis).

B – A colour catalogue, in French and in English, will complement the exhibition. It will be offered to publishers and to journalists and distributed in bookshops. It will present a picture of each illustrator whose works are exhibited with a biographical and bibliographical note. Each selected contestant will receive two copies of the catalogue.
