hello there

(sorry mein deutsch ist nicht gut genug für was ich muss sagen. i hope its not rude to write in english)

I am laying out a german text and was wondering if any german designers could help me with finding the right type. I want to use a grotesk for the body text, and am currently leaning towards Akzidenz, probably the opentype version from Berthold. But I have been lusting after a body font with square umlauts and where the umlauts are lowered around the capitals (eg. to either side of the A/O and within the U) and have not found one the suits my purposes. The only digital ones I know of are fontfont's SuperGrotesk C, the font bureau's Nobel, Softmaker's Focus, and Fruhtiger's OCR B Std. But none of these are versatile enough to make a good body text. Does anyone know of any others? Specifcally anything in an extended opentype set?

I have an example of a font i would love to get, from a book call "Ästhetik und Gewalt" published by Bertelsmann Kunstverlag in 1970, but i don't know how to upload a scan to the forum.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Danke,

John

Hello,

your sample indeed looks like Akzidenz Grotesk. The lowered umlauts
are probably handemade to keep an even distance between the lines and
are not part of any regular font.

greetings, Tharbad

It does look like AG. In that case Mr. Spiekermann himself taught here, that the original family is digitized as Basic Commercial by Linotype. But no low Umlauts. And you sure have seen Kats answer at the MyFonts-thread.
